Galileo (1564-1642) was a renowned physicist, mathematician, astronomer, philosopher. He has been hailed by many as the “Father of the Scientific Method” as he pioneered in the technique of using quantitative experiments that can be analyzed with precision. Galileo discovered the law of the pendulum, designed a variety of scientific instruments, improved the telescope, and observed that Earth was not the center of the solar system, as was commonly thought. Instead, the planets revolved around the sun. This idea was judged to be heretical by the Church of his day and he lived out his final years under house arrest. However, in 1992 Pope John Paul ll rescinded the doctrine. The program will consider the life, times, experiments and advances brought about by Galileo, the Father of Modern Science.
