In this comedy-drama Lars Lindstrom (Gosling) is a loveable introvert with a lot of emotional baggage. After years of solitary living, he invites Bianca, a friend he met on the internet to visit him. He introduces Bianca to his brother Gus (Schneider) and his sister-in-law Karin (Mortimer) who are stunned – because Bianca is a live-size doll that Lars is treating as if she is alive. Gus and Karen step in to help him with his delusion and an emotional journey for Lars and the people around him follows.
