Sixty-two year old Professor Walter Vale (Jenkins) is sleepwalking through life, his only interest learning to play classical piano. Returning from a college convention in Manhattan, he is surprised to find a young couple Tarek (Sleiman) a Syrian man and Zainab (Gurira) his Senegalese girlfriend, victims of a real estate scam, have taken up residence in his apartment. Reluctantly he lets them stay and becomes involved in their lives, which awakens him to new interests in life. When Tarek is arrested for being an undocumented citizen, Walter finds himself compelled to help him with a passion he thought he had lost. A very thought-provoking film.
