TRADITIONAL SONGS
OF 19TH CENTURY AMERICA

with Frank Hendricks, Bob Conroy, and Denny Ryan, Singers/Musicians

Date: Thursday, November 20
Time: 2:00 P.M.

A rousing concert of traditional and popular American songs, primarily from the 19th Century, and the stories behind them. The popular folk group STOUT will perform sea chanteys, songs of the Civil War, the building of the Erie Canal, the railroads, the miners, loggers, and more—on their guitars and the 5-string banjo. The program will offer intriguing glimpses into music’s role in developing and reflecting American culture, STOUT has been playing together since 1964 throughout the U.S. and Europe. They will present stirring renditions of the songs of Stephen Foster along with such famous numbers as Dixie (said to be Lincoln’s favorite), Grandfather’s Clock, Cripple Creek, Shenandoah and others. A compelling portrait of 19th Century America in song.
