Franz Schubert (1797-1828) was the first musical voice of the Romantic movement that swept Europe in the early 19th Century. In his emotional intensity he reveals himself to be a Romantic, and yet remains among Classicists in his formal grace and construction. Schubert’s piano music is unique in its simple, direct, and sincere message. With his extraordinary gift for lyricism and harmony, he uses a color palette that speaks of an emotional journey and creates truly captivating music. The lecturer will play Opus 99, the Impromptus, and the posthumous Klavierstucke to illuminate Schubert’s special characteristics. A fascinating discussion enhanced by live piano performance.
