John Crowley (Fraser) a successful man in corporate America has it all until his two youngest children are diagnosed with a fatal disease. He and his wife Aileen (Russell) team up with a brilliant, but unappreciated and unconventional scientist, Dr. Robert Stonehill (Ford) to form a bio-tech company focused on developing a life-saving drug. They battle the medical and business establishments in a fight against the system and form an unlikely alliance with mutual respect. When a solution seems to have been found the relationship between the two men faces a final test which will affect the fate of the children.
