Ireland, a tiny island, has already given the world of literature four Nobel Prize winners in Beckett, Yeats, Shaw, and Heaney, as well as such famous non-winners as James Joyce, Oscar Wilde, and J.M. Patrick Hanrahan, a long time Bethpage resident and an MFA student in the Stony Brook-South Hampton writing program, will introduce the works of these interesting contemporary Irish writers. A series of one-hour monthly talks, covering three writers per session, will examine their bodies of work and suggest accessible entertaining novels. Mr. Hanrahan will include biographical information and read excerpts from works available through the library system.

The first session will include BROOKLYN by Colm Toibin, as well as books and stories by Nuala O'Faolain and William Trevor. Roddy Doyle, Edna O'Brien and John McGahern will be covered in the second session. Be sure to mark the two dates on your calendar and plan on attending one or both sessions.
