Recently the National Endowment for the Arts released a report revealing that reading is a declining activity among children, teens and adults in the United States. Many times reading often competes with other forms of media such as the internet, music and television. The decline in reading has also lead to a decrease of reading and writing skills. The home energy assistance program (HEAP) is a federally funded program that provides heating related aid to families. To receive assistance an application must be filled out and individuals must meet income eligibility guidelines. If a person is over 60 or has a documented disability they can mail their applications to the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizens Affairs. If a person is under 60 and does not receive social security income (SSI) then they must apply in person at the Education and Assistance Corporation (EAC). Gold Coast Public Library will now be open on Sundays! Beginning Sunday, January 6, 2008 the library will be open from Noon to 5pm until Memorial Day Weekend. The library will reopen on Sundays starting September, 7, 2008.
