HomeShare Long Island

HomeShare, a program from the Family and Children's Association, links senior homeowners who have extra room with adults who need an affordable place to live. The benefits of HomeShare are abundant. It reduces financial pressures, increases security, and provides socialization for both individuals involved. Materials on this program will available at the library for the public. New Place for the DVD's

In order to make room for our growing DVD collection, new storage was built under the DVD case. Now older DVDs will be housed in the new storage and labeled as storage in the computer. Documentaries will also be in the storage space. For assistance in finding a DVD or any other library item please ask any of the librarians who are always ready to help.

The 10 Worst Ways To Break Up With Someone Contest

What would be worse than telling someone "It's not you, it's me". If you know a more heartbreaking and gut wrenching way of breaking up with someone then enter the "Worst Breakup Contest". To enter you must be at least in 6th grade. Click on this post's title (the 10 worst ways to break up with someone) and click on comments to post a horrible breakup, or come into the library and submit your entry into the heart shaped box. The top three entries will receive prizes. The top ten entries will be posted on the "Lounge" bulletin board and blog.

Kids of Distinction

The Town of Oyster Bay is currently accepting nominations for it's Kids of Distinction Award. This award aims to recognize students who have participated in activities that benefit their community or neighborhood. Eight winners are selected ranging from grades 5th through 12. Winners will receive a $500 scholarship at a meeting of the Oyster Bay Town Board. To obtain an application please stop by the reference desk at the Gold Coast Public Library. On February 13, the President signed into law an economic stimulus package to help boost the economy. This is Public Law No: 110-185. You can find the text of the Public Law at http://thomas.loc.gov.

So now everyone is talking about this stimulus package. How is the public affected by this? Will you receive a large rebate? Who qualifies for the rebate? You can find complete information about the eligibility and amounts from the Internal Revenue Service. Go to www.irs.gov and click on "Rebate Questions"?
