AMONG THE HIDDEN by Margaret Peterson Haddix
IT IS THE FUTURE. The government says we have an overpopulation problem. Only two children per family are allowed and Luke is the third child. It is not a difficult life for Luke; his parents are farmers and they live away from most people. Young Luke can go outside, when no one else is around.
But now he is a teenager and the government is building an expensive housing development next to the family farm. Luke must stay indoors, alone, not making a sound for fear of being found out, until the day he sees the face of another hidden child in the new house across the way.
Luke chooses to sneak out to the other house and meets Jen, another hidden teen. Jen knows the government is lying about the overpopulation problem and communicates by computer to other hidden children. Jen's plan is for all hidden children to come out for rally on the President's lawn and force the President to change the law.
Coming out of hiding means possible death by the Population Police. Luke must now decide whether to go or stay hidden. What would you do?
THIS BOOK IS RECOMMENDED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS and AVAILABLE AT THE EAST MEADOW PUBLIC LIBRARY. This title is the first in a series about Luke and the other shadow children.
The other titles are AMONG THE IMPOSTERS, AMONG THE BETRAYED, AMONG THE BARONS, AMONG THE BRAVE and AMONG THE ENEMY.

I haven't read this book yet but I read Turnabout and I absolutly LOVED it! Margaret Peterson Haddix is a wonderfull author and builds great susspenes and makes you ancsious to keep reading other books by her.

I have read every single one of your books stating with Among the hidden then among the imposters then among the batrayed then among the brave and last but not least among the enemy. I love all your books i get very interrested and can read one in a matter of hours. Your a wonderful author and i can't wait until you publish some more among the .. series because that's my kind of book

THis is a great book but i find it is not long enough. I finished it in two days and it would usualy have taken me at least five to read a book of the same size to read. THis may also be becasue i enjoyed it soooo much nice work Margeret

This book rocks. my class has lit circle groups and practically every group has started in on the series but my group can't read the series because i have read every single book and i'm most likely going to reread the entire series...AGAIN

i love her books i had to read it this year for school even though i read it last year and it gets better and better! i also read the second and third book of the series and i read the house on the gulf and they were all awesome!

you need to put down the setting and summarise the book so people understand it and make them want to read it not just put down a couple of things but the book was good

I love these amazing books. Haddix is a genous! I mean I love how I thought that it was in first person point of view but it was actually in third. you really get an excellent understanding of how the characters feel in think and how the characters are very different. Thanks Haddix, you are such an inspiration for the aspiring young writer.

i enjoy reading children books and i think that this is a wonderful book. I had to keep on reading and could not put it down. It was exiting and enjoyable. Oh did i say enjoyable . fantastic
