Veterans Day

Veterans Day, a day that we've been commemorating as a national holiday in this country since 1938, should hold special significance to all of us this year. Unbelievably, it's easy to live in the U.S. and forget that there's a war going on, but, guess what, guys? There's a war going on! With over 2000 soldiers who have died in Iraq and tens of thousands of people wounded -- our country now houses more veterans than ever before (at least in my lifetime).

There are lots of ways to honor our veterans, besides a "support our troops" bumper sticker, a day off from school and mattress sales. Parades are a special way to honor someone, and there were parades in many towns today. Many organizations exist to help or support our veterans. My daughter had a Veteran's Day assembly yesterday at her school. It was something the children will remember -- and it was beautiful!
