He Had a Dream

In trying to identify an excerpt from the "I Have a Dream" speech that Martin Luther King gave -- I was hard pressed to find just one piece that was more important than the others. If you haven't read it in it's entirety -- make today the day you read it all the way through. Here is the part that I finally chose:
"Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force."
This is an explanation of the holiday, excerpted from the King Center:

"The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man
who brought hope and healing to America. We commemorate as well the timeless
values he taught us through his example -- the values of courage, truth,
justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service that so radiantly defined Dr.
King’s character and empowered his leadership. On this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that empowered
his revolutionary spirit."
The theme of this year's holiday is: Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On, Not A Day Off!! What can you do to celebrate King's life? I think the best way to honor him is to read and understand his beliefs and what he stood for. You know this is an important day when it is even recognized by Google. Click on the Google logo and it takes you to a Martin Luther King, Jr. search page. Do a Martin Luther King, Jr. crossword puzzle or just read all about this brilliant man at InfoPlease.com. Enjoy your "day on!"
