Book Awards
How do you know what to read next? Do you wait for your next-door neighbor to make a recommendation, do you go down the list of NYTimes bestsellers, or do you ask your librarian? All of these are good choices and there are many others besides. October is National Book Month and the National Book Award finalists will be announced tomorrow, on October 11th. You can view previous years winners (and finalists)-- which include categories in poetry and young adult literature. The 57th Annual National Book Award will be given out on November 15th.
There are also the The Quill Awards -- an award that partners with Reed Business Information and WNBC. The winners of the Quill will be announced tomorrow. This is an interesting award because unlike other literary awards, the winners are not selected by "professionals," but by consumers popular vote. Unfortunately, the voting ended on September 30th, so it's too late to cast your vote, but it will be interesting to see the results. The Quills also include 20 categories like 'graphic novel,' 'debut novel of the year,' 'children's books,' and 'audio books.' You can see the nominees right now and don't forget to check back to see the winners!
