  • Help Wanted: Tools for Tough Times - Multimedia educational site created
    by PBS affiliates to help New Yorkers struggling with unemployment,
    looking to increase job skills, hoping to improve personal finances, and
    much more.

  • Job Central - a national labor exchange provided by leading U.S. employers in alliance with the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA).
  • Monster Board - a broad-ranging site for both job-seekers and employers.
  • Riley Guide - an extensive listing of links to job-hunting sites.
  • Salary Wizard - provides comparative national salary information for various career titles.
  • Workforce New York - jobseeker links.
  • ZoomInfo - provides brief descriptions of thousands of businesses, along with links to each company's web site, related industries, and competitors. Paid subscriptions offer more in-depth services.

  • CareerSmarts - for students in career planning classes, their parents, and young adults independently interested in occupational self-assessment.
  • Career Zone - created by the New York State Department of Labor mainly for students in grades 6-12, this site enables young people to start planning for a career by examining in-depth job descriptions, utilizing interest/skills assessment tools, exploring educational options and even building a resume.
  • GrooveJob - part-time jobs.
  • Internships.com - designed to help students locate experience-based training to advance their careers.
  • Job Web - online complement to the Job Choices publications that offers career and job-search advice for recent college graduates. Includes resume samples.
  • O*NET Online - a comprehensive database of worker attributes and job characteristics. As the replacement for the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT), O*NET is the nation's primary source of occupational information.
  • Occupational Outlook Handbook - provides hundreds of career descriptions.
  • Studentjobs.gov - job opportunities with the Federal Government for high school, college and graduate students.

  • USA Jobs - official employment site of the Federal Government. This is a one-stop source for federal jobs and employment covering all federal agencies.   • www.allhealthcarejobs.com - lists thousands of medical positions.

  • CareerJumpStart - resume writing guidance and local job openings.
  • HempsteadWorks - a network of organizations that assist employers in hiring qualified workers. This site offers career resources including job training, news updates including job fairs, links to partner organizations where there will be job listings. Also visit the HempsteadWorks Helpful Web Sites for Job Seekers. Listed here are job banks for specialized fields.
  • LIWorks - dedicated to training and assisting Long Island's future workforce
  • SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) - volunteer agency offering free information and counseling for prospective business owners.

  • Nonprofit Oyster
  • Opportunity Knocks - focused solely on professionals interested in searching jobs and utilizing career enhancement resources within the nonprofit community.

     

One-Stop Centers

  • Career OneStop - site sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor that offers useful career tools (including resume and cover letter examples/templates) and labor market information. A new section - "Worker ReEmployment" -- is at the top of the page.
  • HempsteadWorks - Nassau County's One-Stop Career Center that assists employers in hiring qualified workers and job seekers in developing their skills and securing employment.

 

Re-entering the work force (for workers ages 50+)

  • AARP Job Resources and More - timely resources and advice on where the jobs are, how to get a job, tips on resumé writing and interviewing as well as practical articles.
  • AARP National Employer Team - provides job links to selected companies (formerly known as Featured Employers) that recognize the value of hiring older workers.
