Heard a good book lately?
If you’re into technology and you
love to listen to audio books, we’ve got the perfect thing
for you! Library cardholders can now download audio books directly
to their personal computers and MP3 players. Simply
log on to the Bryant Library’s Web site
from your home or office and download away. It’s another free
service that comes with your library card!
Downloadable Audio books are digital versions of audio books that
are available through the Internet. Audio books can be played on
any desktop or laptop device supporting Windows Media Player (version
9 and above). With the rise in popularity of portable MP3 players
for downloadable music, audio books are following suit. The file
can be transferred to any compatible digital media player.
The Bryant Library is leading the way in offering this technology.
As the first library in Nassau County we are offering this service
through NetLibrary, which is the leading provider of e-Books. NetLibrary
has partnered with Recorded Books, the world's largest independent
publisher and distributor of unabridged audio books, to launch a
new subscription program that will provide the latest bestsellers,
book club favorites, award-winning authors, and more.
NetLibrary offers a subscription program specifically for libraries.
They also provide simultaneous publishing, which means that the audio
book is available at the same time as the print version.
Not only does the service offer patrons another point of access to
materials, but it also reduces the cost of providing duplicate copies
of materials or replacement of damaged materials. This technology permits an overall maximum so
every patron who wants a title can get it simultaneously. The
Library will maintain physical copies of all standard materials.
