The Bryant Library Internet Policy for Public Use
The mission of the Bryant Library shall be to provide our community with access to ideas and to promote lifelong reading for pleasure and for knowledge by providing classic and popular literature in a variety of formats. The library is committed to providing materials and services sufficient to meet the personal, educational, and professional needs of community residents of all ages.In keeping with its mission and with advances in information technology, the Library provides users with access to the Internet. The Internet is a global electronic network that provides dynamic resources and facilitates communication. The Bryant Library makes no warranty, expressed or implied, for the timeliness, accuracy or usefulness for a particular purpose of information accessed via the Internet.
Library staff cannot control access points that often change rapidly and unpredictably. Users are hereby notified that they are responsible for the choice of sites that they visit. As with Other materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.
In keeping with the tradition of the American Library, the Bryant Library Board of Trustees affirms that an informed community values its intellectual freedom and respects and tolerates diverse ideas and opinions.
Users must comply with U.S. copyright law and all Other applicable laws.

Internet Access Acceptable Use Policy 7/1/2002
• The Bryant Library offers the use of Public Access Computers in the Adult and Children's Departments. Users are subject to all state and federal laws and The Bryant Library Maintenance of Public Order at Library Facilities Policy. Section 245.11 of the NYS Penal Law prohibits the displaying of obscene or pornographic materials on Library video monitors or in printed/graphic form. Violation of this law will result in loss of the privilege to use the Public Access Computers and may result in prosecution under the Penal Law.
• Bryant Library patrons are given preference in the use of the Public Access Computers. Bryant Library patrons may pre-register at the Reference Desk in person or by phone. One forty-five minute time period may be reserved within a week of the appointed time. Sessions in the Children's Department are limited to 30 minutes. If additional time is needed and there is no one scheduled for the next time slot, the patron may sign up for another session. Non-residents may sign up to use PAC 2 for one 45 minute session. Advance reservations will not be accepted.• All Patrons and non-residents must sign a Public Access Internet/Computer form. Bryant Library patrons will be asked to present a library card with a blue or white dot before signing up to use the computers. Patrons who do not have their card may go to the Circulation Desk, show identification and get a printout of their record. This printout may be presented at the Reference desk in lieu of a library card. New Bryant patrons will be given a PAC Pass to use until they receive their library card in the mail.
• Roslyn Residents and non-residents who do not have a library card must show identification at the Circulation Desk and also sign a Public Access Internet/Computer form. They will be given a Public Access Computer Pass. The PAC Pass must be presented at the Reference Desk before signing up to use a computer. Residents and Non-residents under the age of 18 are required to have a parent or legal guardian sign the Public Access Internet form provided by the library.
• The Internet may contain material of a controversial nature. It is the responsibility of parents to monitor their children's Internet activities
• The public computers may be used to access the Internet, and for word processing, resume writing, spreadsheets, and other software programs. No other software programs may be installed on the PACs by patrons or non-residents.
• Paper and computer disks may be purchased at the Reference Desk or you may bring your own. Paper must be standard 8 ½ x 11 or 8 ½ x 14.
• NO SCRAP PAPER or PRINTING OF LABELS PLEASE! ALL DATA FILES MUST BE STORED ON A FLOPPY DISK.
• If patrons enter a fee-based service, they are responsible for any charges incurred.
• The Library assumes no responsibility for any damage which may occur as a result of the use of this system. This may include, but is not limited to, loss of data resulting from delays, non deliveries, or service interruptions, as well as damages resulting from unintended transfers or disclosures of user file information. Use of the information obtained is at your own risk, and it is up to each user to determine what is appropriate.• Users must be familiar with the software applications that they are using. Our librarians can assist in the initial start-up of the system, however, staff cannot provide extended instruction.
• Failure to observe the above guidelines will result in termination of computer and Internet access privileges. The library also reserves the right to remove the privileges of anyone who tampers with or intentionally damages the equipment or software programs.
