A movie about the Greek gods and demi-gods......I heard good things about this movie....the book series is very popular at the library. If your dad is the god of oceans and earthquakes, I guess you better like water.

Personally, I'm not into the whole vampire reading craze (not that there is anything wrong with that) but if you are, you may want to check out For Love of Do-Good Vampires or The Vampire Library for some great vampire reads.

Great news, Blizzard announced the release of Starcraft 2 for 2010!

Ever notice how things seem to happen in 3's, especially deaths? First we lost the prolific Robert Parker, next was literary icon J.D. Salinger and this Sunday noted British jockey turned mystery writer, Dick Francis passed away at the age of 89. We put out a tribute table to Mr. Francis, come on in and re-read one of his many novels or try one for the first time.

Martin Scorsese is directing the movie version of The Invention of Hugo Cabret, the Caldecott Award-winning book by Brian Selsnick. The latest rumor is that it will be in 3-D. I'm not sure how I feel about 3-D sometimes it makes me seasick, but I only hope that Scorsese will be more successful at adpating a book into a movie than many before him.

As the Career Coach at the library, I assist people with their resumes all the tme and I found an excellent online resume resource, CeeVee, that is quick, intutive and easy to use when you need a resume in a pinch.

Get your arctic gear ready because we're going to have snow! The library might be close due to snow so come in and stock up.

Two science fiction films are up for best picture this year @ the Oscars, Avatar and District 9!

The Edgar Allan Poe Awards (popularly called the Edgars), named after Edgar Allan Poe, are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America. They honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film, and theatre published or produced in the previous year. The award ceremony is April 6th so you have plenty of time to read the selections of the best novel mysteries for 2010 or any of the other nominees.

Thanks to a cool photo newsletter called Photojojo, I found this great site, Shape Collage, that makes photo collages for you. It's great for busy parents who don't have time to scrap book all the cute pictures of their kids. We might use it to make a collage of all our pictures from the summer reading program this year. Here's a sample I made:

Always on the lookout for a cool website geared towards kids and the big people that love them - this site showed up in my inbox thanks to a co-worker. Mommy Poppins tags itself thusly: "Get more out of NY with kids." So now it's combined two things I love: kids and NY!
A recent feature on a candy store in Brooklyn (Dewey's Candy - love the name!) has me contemplating a trek to Kings County. The maps included with each post help you plan your trip. And there's a great feature on the left side of the site about books. Entitled "What We're Reading," it features an adult title under "Me" and a "Big Kid" and "Little Kid" book too.
