Placing Holds on Library Materials

Procedures on how to place an item on hold/reserve from home/computer. Please be sure to inform the patron that if the item already is on the shelf, they cannot place a hold on a book.

1. Go to our Website, www.nassaulibrary.org/elmont.
2. Scroll down to first row, Online EPL. Look to the right and see the box "Catalog." Click on "Catalog."
3. New page will appear; click on "Login to GeoWeb."
4. Type in your Library card bar code where it is indicated. Then type in your password. If it's your first time, type in "library" as the password. You can go back in and change your password at any time. Click "Continue."
5. A screen will appear that confirms your name and your home Library. If this information is correct, click "Continue."
6. A screen will appear with red letters stating, "Database Selection," click on "Elmont Public Library (in blue letters)."
7. Next screen that appears is "Simple Keyword Search." Type in the title of the item (be as specific as you can) you wish to place a hold on in the blank box to the right of "Search." Then be sure "all words" is showing in the box to the right of where you typed in the title of the item and click on "Submit."
8. A list of items will appear. Click on the "full record" of the item you wish to place a hold on.
9. The full record will be displayed along with the current "Status." If the item is on shelf at the Main Library or two branches, you will not be able to place a hold. The "Status" column will tell you when the item is due back and at which location.
10. Look to the left and click on "hold title."
11. A screen stating, "Hold Patron Check" will be displayed. Type in your Library card bar code again and your password. Then click on "Validate Patron Privileges." If you are delinquent, it will not allow you to place a hold. You must come in and pay fines before you are able to place a hold.
12. Page displaying "Commit hold" will appear. Be sure the pick up location is the place you want to pick up your item (i.e., Elmont, Alden or Stewart).
13. Click on "Commit hold" and the next page will display "Hold response" screen. This will tell you that your transaction has been completed successfully.

Once the item is returned, it will be checked out to you and you will be notified.
