COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EAST MEADOW SCHOOL DISTRICT STUDENTS

Every school Young Adult Services receives many requests from students for community service opportunities in the East Meadow Public Library.

Our current policy is to offer these volunteer opportunities to students in grades 8 and up, however, there are two other ways to volunteer at the Library and receive community service credit.

1. To shelve books in the Library you must be in grades 8 and up. This volunteer opportunity is limited to a few students. If you know you will need time, please plan ahead. Young Adult Services can not promise to assign the volunteer all the hours needed.

2. Join the TEEN ADVISORY BOARD. It meets monthly at the Library. Bring your ideas, opinions and friends to assist Young Adult Services with programming ideas and things important to teens who use the Library. For specific dates and time check this webpage or call Young Adult Services at 516 794-2570 extension 237.

3. Recommend a book for discussion on the YA BOOK LOG. Should you want to recommend a book for discussion, please send your review to the young adult librarian at fjacksonem@nassaulibrary.org and it will be entered on the blog. The requirements for community services are:
a. The book must be found in the East Meadow Public Library's young adult or adult collection and has not previously been reviewed on the site.
b. The review must be 125 to 150 words long. It should include a summary of the book and who you think should read this book.
c. Please write the review using appropriate language and grammar.
d. Only one title per month will be accepted for community service.

All reviews will be credited with your name, grade and school. Each review will receive one hour of community service. If you email the review your certificate for community service will be emailed to you.

Since you made it to the bottom of the page, why not check out our new book discussion blog, aptly named the YA Book Log?
