The FARMINGDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY, serving the residents of U.F.S.D. #22, has as it's primary mission: 

1. Enhancing the cultural, recreational and educational needs of all the community by serving 
   

    as a center for print and non print materials; 

2. Facilitating access to information and knowledge through cooperation with other libraries and 

    educational institutions; 

3. Providing meeting space for local groups and organizations interested in the cultural, 

    recreational and educational development of the citizens of the community. 

 

Goals...

1.  Expand and develop the Library's Reference, Circulating and Media Collections to meet the 

     needs of the community by:

  • Budgeting for materials and staffing;

  • Expanding the number of tools used for order materials;

  • Soliciting suggestions for purchase;

  • Surveying local library collections for ideas for collection development.

2.  Promote the library's programs, materials and services so that the community is better 

     informed of its library's resources by:

  • Encouraging requests for the newsletter;

  • Developing an informational brochure that explains library services, policies, and resources;

  • Creating a monthly calendar of events for in-house distribution.

3.  Provide programs for all ages that will contribute to the enrichment of the community by:

  • Exposing them to the arts and literature;

  • Increasing their opportunities for self development;

  • Encouraging visits by local schools and organizations;

  • Developing subject bibliographies for distribution to the public.

4.  Monitor and respond to trends and development in library service by:

  • Encouraging staff development;

  • Participating in professional organizations.

5.  Develop cooperative activities with local schools and organizations by:

  • Working with the school media specialists to supplement curriculum study;

  • Serving as a meeting place and resource center for community groups.

6.  Review the Library's Policies and update them as necessary.
