Audiobook Resource Center

 

 

***Patrons need to come to the Reference Desk in order to register for Recorded Books. Once you register with a Librarian, you will be able to download audiobooks to your PC and to your MP3 player.

 

 

Audio books are digitized books available through your library's subscription to the Recorded Books Internet database.

By using your Farmingdale library card number, you will be able to download an audio book to your PC and MP3 player.  

 

You will be able to listen to the audiobook while you exercise, drive, or walk!

Instructions for Downloading Audio Books From Net Library

 

     1. Click here to go immediately to the Recorded Books website. 

 

     2. Log in using your username and password. First time users must create an account.

         If you are a first time user, Click on the words at the right that say, 'Create a Free Account'.

         Instructions will follow.  When you are finished, click on box that says, 'Create Account'.

     

     3. Search for audiobooks using the search feature box or browse by genre (on the menu on the

          right side of the screen).

     

     4. Once you have located the audiobook that you want to download, click on the words, 'Show

          Details' that are highlighted in red.

    

     5. Click on 'Download this audiobook'.

  

     6. On the Select an Option Page, either click on 'Checkout & Download CD Quality' OR 

         'Checkout & Download Radio Quality'.

 

     7. When the File Download dialog box opens and asks the question , Do you want to open or save

         this file?, click 'Save' if you want to save the audiobook to the computer. If you want to play the 

         audiobook at this time, then click 'Open'

 

          Note: The best place to save the file is on the computer desktop. Doing this will enable

          you to easily find the downloaded audiobook once it is finished downloading.

    

     8.  The file will begin downloading/transferring to your computer.

 

     Note: As the file is being downloaded/transferred to your computer, the estimated time left may

     increase rather than decrease – eventually the time for downloading will start to decrease.

 

Once the AudioBook is downloaded to the Computer,

Follow These Instructions

 

1.   Connect one end of the USB cable to your computer and the other end to your MP3 player.

 

2.      Double click on the audiobook file on your desktop. The file will open up in Windows Media Player.  

 

      Note: Make sure that you have version 9.0 of Microsoft Windows Media Player or higher installed on you computer.

 

3.      The audiobook will begin playing. Click the pause button - which is located at the bottom left of the Windows Media Player screen – two vertical lines.

 

4.      Right click on the title in the ‘Now Playing’ list screen.

 

5.      Click on the 'Add To' Synch list. Another menu will appear - click on 'Synch list '.

 

6.      Click the green 'Start Synch' button which is located at the bottom, right side of the Windows Media Player screen.

 

7.      The Windows Media Player screen will say Copying. 

 

      Note: Notice that the % will be increasing. First it will say Synchronizing, then it will start increasing with the , 10%, 20%, 30% etc.

 

8.      The screen will say Synchronizing completed when the audiobook has been transferred to your MP3 player.

 

9.      You can unplug the MP3 player from the computer and begin to listen to the audiobook that you just downloaded.
