Notary Public

The Freeport Memorial Library has a notary public on staff. To assure prompt service when you need a notary, please read the following:

  • The Library notary is usually available as follows:
    Fridays, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
    Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Do NOT sign your document in advance. All documents must be signed in the presence of the notary.
  • Bring a photo ID, preferably your driver’s license.
  • The document must be in English.
  • If document must be witnessed, you must provide your own witnesses. The Library cannot supply witnesses.
  • The notary cannot notarize wills or notarize the authenticity of documents (passports or birth, death, or marriage certificates).
  • A list of local notary publics is available at the Circulation, Community Services, and Reference departments, or may be downloaded from the Downloads page of this web site.

Please note: The notary’s oath requires the notary to identify the person signing the document and witness him doing so. The Library cannot make any exceptions to this New York State law

To obtain a Freeport Library Card

To obtain a library card, come to the Circulation Desk with two forms of current identification that show that you live in the Village of Freeport or the Freeport School District. For example, you may bring an electric or telephone bill, drivers license, a letter addressed to you, a report card, school ID, or your school bus pass. After you complete a short application, you will receive your card. Each person in your family should have his/her own library card. With your library card, you may borrow books, magazines, audiotapes, compact discs and videotapes, and use the public access computers.

Click on the logo to the left to find out how you can contact your elected officials and other state policymakers on issues of importance to the library community. The New York Library Association has already drafted a letter for you to send out to state policymakers.  All you need to do is type in your name, address and zipcode and our software will identify your state elected officials for you. Now advocating for your library services can be quick, simple and timely, plus there is no cost to you.

The Library scans the minutes of the Library Board, the School Board and the Village Board into Adobe Acrobat format. If you e-mail the Reference Department at frreference@freeportlibrary.info and let us know which minutes you want, we will e-mail them to you.

The Library is not responsible for any errors in these minutes due to the scanning process, and maintains file copies of the minutes of these agencies at the Reference Desk of the Library.
