Then come to the Library and borrow a member's pass to one of the museums below and discover the wonders of our cultural heritage.


Museum passes circulate for two days. There is a fine of $2.00 per day for overdue passes. When you borrow passes for a museum, please check the due date.




American Folk Art Museum

The American Folk Art Museum is one of the leading institutions dedicated to the exhibition and preservation of folk art. The colection includes 18th and 19th century paintings, quilts, and sculptures as well as dynamic works of contemporary self-taught artists. The membership includes free admission for two adults plus children and grandchildren under age 18. You may take advantage of a 10% discount at the Museum Book and Gift Shops.

American Museum of Natural History

Renowned for its vast collections and informative exhibitions, the Museum interprets key areas of science for the public and serves as a field guide to our planet, its culture, and its place in the cosmos. There are more than forty grand exhibition halls that span subjects ranging from dinosaurs, to gems and minerals, to life in the sea, to the cultures of the seven continents, and to the cosmos. Brooklyn Botanic Garden

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden blooms in the middle of one of the largest cities in the world. More than 12,000 kinds of plants from around the globe are displayed on 52 acres and in the acclaimed Steinhardt Conservatory. The membership includes free admission for two adults and children under 16, and a 10% discount at the Garden Gift Shop and the Terrace Cafe.

The Brooklyn Museum of Art is the second largest art musum in New York City and one of the largest in the United States. One of the premier art institutions in the world, its permanent collection includes more than one and a half million objects, from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art, and represents almost every culture. The membership includes freeadmission for two adults and four children under age 18, and a 10% discount at the Museum Shop and Cafés.

Long Island's illustrious whaling history is presented in the museum's "Mark Well the Whale" exhibit, while the "wonder of whales" gallery encourages visitors to listen to the songs of the humpback whale, marvel at the size of the killer whale skull, and learn about whale biology and whale conservation. From the early days of kites and ballooning to the race to the moon, Long Island has played a very important role in the development and growth of aviation and aerospace. El Museo del Barrio is one of the foremost Latin American cultural institutions in the United States. El Museo prides itself in representing the full scope and richness of the Latin American communities in El Barrio, the city of New York, and throughout the country. El Museo's mission to interpret and disseminate the Latin American cultural heritage is reflected through its exhibitions and educational programs. The membership includes free admission for a family of four and a 10% discount on Museum shop purchases.

The Museum exhibits are devoted to regional geology, Native American culture, and the scienc of archaeology. Exhibits, maps, rocks, and fossils illustrate New York State's ancient geological past and Long Island's glacial history. The preserve consists of 62 acres of glacial moraine covered by woodlands, thickets, and meadows. There are also 5 miles of nature trails. The membership includes free admission for four adults or a family group consisting of 2 adults and up to 4 children ages 5 through 12. Children younger than 5 pay no entrance fee. guests also receive a 10% discount on all merchandise in the gift shop.

Guggenheim Museum

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is home to one of the world's finest collections of Modern and contemporary art, The Wright building, the youngest to be designated a New York City langdmark, is itself one of the greatest works in the Guggenheim collection. The membership includes free admission for two adults and all children 18 and younger living in the same household, and discounts in all Cafés and museum stores, as well as parking near the museum.

Long Island Children's Museum is a learning laboratory where hands-on exhibits invite visitors to experiment, and play. The museum is designed for infants through 12 years old and their grownups. The membership is good only for admission during normal museum hours. No adults without children or children undaccompanied by an adult will be admitted.

The Morgan Library & Museum

Now recognized as one of the world's greatest trasuries of seminal artistic, literary, musical, and historical works, The Morgan Library & Museum began in the 1890's as the private collection of the legendary American financier Pierpont Morgan. The New York Botanical Garden

Old Westbury Gardens

Old Westbury Gardens, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the former home of John S. Phipps, his wife, Margarita Grace Phipps, and their four children. Built in 1906 by the English designer George A. Crawley, the magnificent Charles II-style mansion is nestled amid 160 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds, and lakes. Westbury House is furnished with fine English antiques and decorative arts from the more than fifty years of the family's residence. The membership includes free admission to the museum for two adults and their children and a 10% discount at the Garden Gate Gift Shop and the Garden Plant Shop.

Paley Center for Media

The Paley Center for Media was founded by William S. Paley in 1975 to collect, preserve, and interpret television and radio programming and to make these programs available to the public. After requesting a program from the collection, you may privately listen to or watch your selection at radio and television consoles.
