There is an old saying in the library field, “Libraries will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no libraries.” With our country facing a time of severe financial crisis it seems as though we just might be testing that axiom to its fullest.

Throughout this lean and troubled year we have seen a substantial increase in library usage. You and your neighbors are taking home books, magazines, DVDs, videos, music CDs and audio books at a record pace. You are coming to our book discussions, and bringing your children to our story hours in record numbers. You are stopping by to just sit and read in our quiet study area. And, despite our own very real concerns about the economy, we are enjoying every minute of it.

As we head into the colder, darker season of winter, we want to be the first place you turn to for the latest best seller, or the newest DVD. Come use our computers, or bring your laptop and log on to our free wi-fi system. Join us for a Sunday concert, or sign up your children for a craft program. It’s all here for you, paid for by your tax dollars.

We all hope the economy will improve very soon and we can offer you even more products and services. But through these lean times you can depend on your public library to keep the light on for reading and knowledge, computer services, or just plain entertainment. Even with less money to spend the Library will get you through. Imagine how dark things would be without it.
