HELPING KIDS TO SURF SAFE

This hour-long program offers guidelines for parents and other caregivers on how they can reduce their children's risks online, and how they can take a more active role in their children's cyberspace activity. This presentation addresses the issues of online bullying and online sexual exploitation. Information will be shared on how these risks operate within the lives of children and how caring adults can manage these risks through technology and increasing communication and responsibility between parent and child about computer use and online safety.

Gregory Cahn, Housing and Financial Literacy Counselor of La Fuerza Unida of Glen Cove, comes to the Library to present an informative lecture on credit and personal finance. Learn about the importance of having a good credit history, the cost of having a low credit score, creating a budget, reducing debt, as well as learning how to improve your credit score and qualify for lower interest rates.

Learn skills that will help to protect your children. Developed for adults by Laura A. Ahearn, Executive Director of Parents for Megan's Law and the Crime Victims Center, this presentation demonstrates that you have the power to protect your child from sexual abuse using Laura's Ten Prevention Tips. Most prevention programs focus on "stranger danger" and do not address the reality that ninety percent of childhood sexual abuse occurs with someone a child has an established and trusting relationship with. You'll also learn the ten Rules for Safety, red flags to detect inappropriate behavior, physical and behavioral signs of sexual abuse and tricks sexual predators use to access children. Adult rape prevention will also be discussed.
SUMMER FAMILY BUS TRIP TO THE BRONX ZOO

Join us for our Summer Family Bus Trip as we visit The Bronx Zoo. A luxury coach bus will be leaving the Library at 8:30am to spend the day at the zoo. We'll leave the zoo at 4pm for the ride home. Register for one or all three of these classes. Computer experience is required. You should have completed Computer Kindergarten for Grownups and Computer First Grade for Grownups or have equivalent knowledge prior to taking this course. Registration for all three classes begins on Tuesday, July 1 for Glen Cove residents and on Tuesday, July 8 for all others, space permitting. Come learn about some of this duo's finest musicals including Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, and The King and I and the glorious songs that became classics, such as "If I Loved You," "You'll Never Walk Alone," and "People Will Say We're In Love."
DEFENSIVE DRIVING CLASS

The AARP Mature Driving course reduces driving record points and insurance costs. Registration is in person at the Reference desk and begins Wednesday, July 23 for Glen Cove residents and Wednesday, July 30 for all others, space permitting. BORROW A MUSEUM PASS!
The Glen Cove Public Library is pleased to announce it is now offering free passes to The American Museum of Natural History, The New York Botanical Garden, Long Island Children's Museum, Guggenheim Museum and Old Westbury Gardens. The passes, which circulate just like a book, may be borrowed for a period of seven days by Glen Cove Library cardholders in good standing. There is a limit of one pass per week per family and the late fee for overdue passes is $3 per day. Take advantage of this exciting program! For additional information, please ask at the Reference desk. The Museum Pass program is made possible by the Friends of the Glen Cove Library.
WORLD LANGUAGE COLLECTION
The Library maintains a collection of foreign language materials aimed at meeting the recreational and informational needs of our diverse community. While many of these items are on loan to us through Hempstead Library's rotating foreign language collection, the Glen Cove Library is pleased to announce it is increasing the number of foreign language books purchased as part of our permanent collection. Included are novels in French, Italian, Spanish, German, Chinese, Polish, Russian, Persian and Korean, as well as non-fiction items in Spanish. If you are interested in obtaining a foreign language book that we do not have, please inquire at the Reference desk and we will try to obtain it for you through Interlibrary loan.
LONG ISLAND TALKING BOOKS LIBRARY
Do you or someone you know have difficulty reading printed material? The Long Island Talking Book Library can help! The Long Island Talking Book Library (LITBL) is a free library service for individuals who cannot hold, handle or see well enough to use regular print books. LITBL is a subregional library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, the division of the Library of Congress that produces books and magazines in Braille and recorded media for people with visual or physical disabilities. LITBL lends professionally recorded books and magazines, and the special equipment needed to play them, to eligible residents on Long Island. Materials are sent to borrowers and returned by postage-free mail. This program is made possible through the support of the Suffolk Cooperative Library System and the Nassau Library System, in an effort to ensure accessible library services to people with disabilities throughout Long Island. Application forms are available at the Library or they may be downloaded from the LITBL website, www.litbl.org. THE GLEN COVE PUBLIC LIBRARY’S BRICK FUND
The Glen Cove Public Library is pleased to announce that its popular fund-raising brick program is continuing. Two sizes of bricks available, and can be inscribed to honor a living person, or to honor the memory of a loved one. Donations will be made to the Glen Cove Public Library Gift Fund and will be used to fund programs,items and activities not covered in the Library’s regular budget.
