STORYTIME AT THE BEACH

SUMMER READING CLUB 2008
“CATCH THE READING BUG”

Catch the Reading Bug at the Library by joining the Children’s Summer Reading Club. Sign up began on Monday, June 23rd. The End of Summer Reading Celebration, with music by Joe Guida, will be held on Wednesday, August 6th at 7pm for all children who have read and recorded their books in their reading record cards. Record card and reading certificates will be distributed to the children at this time.


ART WORKSHOP - PAINT IN THE STYLE OF FRANZ MARC

Learn about and paint in the bold style of noted artist Franz Marc, acclaimed for his passionately painted pictures of wild animals. During this two part workshop, you'll create your own 16" x 20" canvas work of art, ready to be framed. Dress to mess!

BUGS WITH THE MAD SCIENTIST

Welcome to the world of insects! You'll learn about bugs' unique eyesight and the way bugs defend themselves against predators. See how camouflage works and how bugs help our environment. Children will bring home their very own Mad Science Bug Box!

CATERPILLAR CUDDLE UP CRAFT

Create a soft caterpillar using colorful foam disks, pom poms and pipe cleaners. This 10-inch creature will be a great decoration.

Back by popular demand! Come to a live animal program presented by the Theodore Roosevelt Nature Sanctuary. Children will see a raptor, a snake, a rabbit and more!

SPONGE PAINT BUG COLLAGE

With large shaped sponges and stamps, create a collage full of colorful bugs and other fun creatures. Dress to mess.

Our summer Thursday morning pre-school programs are full of music, movement, stories and crafts, making them an enjoyable time for both parent or caregiver and child. Come and join us for one or all of these programs. Please register in the Children's Room to ensure a place in these popular programs.

CHILDREN'S DATABASES SEARCHABLE FROM HOME!
Did you know that children can access the Glen Cove Library's databases and obtain research information for school projects from their home computer? Search our Children's databases and find information on countries, animals, math, history, science experiments, sports, art and current events. To access the databases, go to the Glen Cove Library's homepage at www.glencovelibrary.org. Click on Children's Services and then click on Helpful Databases to view the list of available resources. Children's databases include Country Watch, EBSCOhost Web, Kids InfoBits, Kids Search, Searchasaurus, Student Research Center and TumbleBooks. To use these databases, you may need to enter your Library barcode number (2 1571 ______ ). We're sure you'll enjoy using these databases. If you have any questions about using the databases, please call the Children's Room at 676-2130.

VIEW YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT FROM HOME AND RENEW ITEMS!
To view your Library account from home, go to www.alisweb.org and click on the My Account link. Enter your name, your Library barcode number and your pin number (the last four digits of your telephone number). You can view a listing of items currently checked-out, renew items and see a listing of items you've requested.

REQUEST BOOKS FROM HOME!
Children (and their parents, too) can search the online catalog and request books from home or from any computer with Internet access. Visit the Library's homepage at www.glencovelibrary.org and click on Search the Catalog. Once you've located the book you want, click the Request tab. You'll need to enter your name, your Library barcode number and your pin number (the last four digits of your telephone number). Please note that not all items are available for request. If an item you selected is not available for request, a message will appear indicating that the selected item may not be requested. Please call the Children's Room at 676-2130 if you have any questions regarding requesting an item.
