Join us for picture books, finger plays and playtime.  Children must be two years of age by April 1, 2005.

It’s National Library Week, a time to celebrate libraries. Come to the Children’s Room and find books, magazines, videos, DVD’s, CD’s, CD-Rom games, databases, and internet access.

Introduction to Braille Workshop
How the Blind Learn to Read & Write

With Rita Whitman Steingold
 

  • Monday, April 18, 6:30 p.m.


Grades 3 – 5

This informative workshop introduces Braille and helps students understand how children with visual impairments adapt and manage their surroundings. 

  • Learn about the life of Louis Braille, 
  • take home your name typed on a Braillewriter, 
  • solve some Braille riddles and 
  • receive a copy of  Rita Whitman Steingold’s book Taking Visual Impairment to School.
Rita Whitman Steingold has taught blind and handicapped children at the Queens Center for Multiple Handicapped Children for twenty-five years.

District Residents may register beginning Tuesday, April 5 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Up, Up & Away With Mad Science
 
  • Wednesday, April 27, 10:30 a.m.


Ages 5 & Up

Join us for this thrilling, high energy science show that explains how the weight of the earth’s pressure pushes down on you with the force of two elephants.  Explore how Bernoulli’s principle creates enough lift to make a jumbo jet fly or how air pressure can be used to launch a mini-rocket.  This program will leave you amazed.

District residents may pick up tickets beginning

SUMMER READING CLUB KICKOFF
All-Star Musical Maniacs with Petra Puppets

Ages 4 and older

Put down that remote control! Drummers in diapers, Robot Radio and a Gargling Piranha Fish are on the loose. Our bird-brained DJ surfs the radio waves and uncovers "Goofy Gizmos" of the universe. They're all In Tune and Out of Control!
Starring:  T-Bag Toucan, Baby Boomer, Antennae From Mars, Eugene de Robot, Pedro the Gargling Piranha Fish and Goofy Gizmos of the Universe.  Join us for this delightful ventriloquist puppet show.

Ventriloquist Steve Petruzzella trained at the National Theatre of Puppet Arts and at Jim Henson Productions.

District Residents and Friends may pick up tickets 
beginning Wednesday, June 1 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Qualifications for Voting
Registration is required only if a resident has not voted in a Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District or Library referendum within the last 4 years.  In order to be eligible to register, you must be 18 years of age or older by April 13, 2005, and you must have been a legal resident of our district for at least 30 days prior to the referendum.  U.S. citizenship is also required. 

Registration for the Budget Vote is 
Wednesday, April 6, from 1 to 9 p.m.





Voting Information
Voting will be in the Boehm Meeting Room of the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library, 1125 Broadway, Hewlett, New York, for all registered voters, Wednesday, April 13, 2005 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
