June 2008

Dear Families of Incoming Sixth Grade Students,

The sixth grade reading teachers would like to take this opportunity to introduce the summer reading list. The selections on this list represent a variety of genres, authors, and readability levels.Students are required to read one title over the summer and complete the four (4) attached tasks:

Task 1 – Character Map

Task 2 – Word Nomination

Task 3 – Problems and Solutions

Task 4 – Recommendation

We have taken the time to choose novels that we believe your child will enjoy. Please encourage your child to select an appropriate title, and consider reading the book with him/her.These selections were chosen because there are additional titles your child may enjoy by each author.Feel free to read on!

Since you may not be familiar with all of these books, enclosed you will find a list including the title, author, and a short description of each work. These descriptions are included to help you and your child make an informed selection.

The Middle School Library Media Specialist, Ms. Bertalon, has informed the local library and bookstores so that all titles should be readily available. If you need another copy of the assignment, please visit the WMS website via www.hewlett-woodmere.net. We hope that your family will enjoy sharing the great adventures of reading.

Have a wonderful summer.

Sincerely,
