Families of Incoming Sixth Grade Students,
The
sixth grade reading teachers would like to take this opportunity to introduce
the summer reading list.The selections
on this list represent a variety of genres, authors, and readability levels.Students
are required to read one title over the summer and complete the
four
(4) attached tasks:

1 – Character Map
Task
2 – Word Nomination
Task
3 – Problems and Solutions
Task
4 – Recommendation
We
have taken the time to choose novels that we believe your child will enjoy.
Please encourage your child to select an appropriate title, and consider
reading the book with him/her.These
selections were chosen because there are additional titles your child may
enjoy by each author.Feel free to
read on!
Since
you may not be familiar with all of these books, enclosed you will find
a list including the title, author, and a short description of each work.These
descriptions are included to help you and your child make an informed selection.
The
Middle School Library Media Specialist, Ms. Bertalon, has informed the
local library and bookstores so that all titles should be readily available.If
you need another copy of the assignment, please visit the WMS website via
www.hewlett-woodmere.net.
We hope that your family will enjoy sharing the great adventures of reading.

1 - Character Map

the following map based on your knowledge of a main character in your novel.Be
sure to use information (textual evidence) from the book to support your
answers.

are going to be using some of your detective skills to help you complete
this task.
·Find
two
vocabulary words, from anywhere in the novel that you feel are important
for the class to learn.
·Look
for challenging words that will be useful and improve everyone’s vocabulary.
