The Wrestlemania Reading Challenge started on Sunday, October 18th, but you still have time to participate.  The Reading Challenge is open to teens and tweens in grades five through twelve.  Teens and tweens are challenged to read ten books for pleasure and keep a Log of their reading.  Reading Log completion will entitle the teen to a free WWE mini-poster.  In addition to the Log, teens and tweens can choose to enter the Bookmark Contest.  The Bookmark, created by the entrant, must include a slogan which promotes reading.  Bookmarks and Reading Logs must be submitted by the end of the Reading Challenge on Tuesday, January 19th.  Bookmarks submitted will be judged by library staff and three winners will be chosen:  one in grades 5-6, one in grades 7-8, and one in grades 9-12.  The local winners of the Bookmark Contest will receive a DVD from the WWE, and their winning entries will be forwarded to the Young Adult Library Services Association for entry into the Grand Prize competition.  A total of twenty-one Grand Prize winners will be selected from across the United States and Canada.  Each Grand Prize winner will receive a trip to Wrestlemania 26 in Phoenix, Arizona in March, 2009.  Registration is ongoing at the Teen Desk in the Children’s Room. 

CHOCOLATE DEMONSTRATION

Registration: Monday, November 2nd at 3:00 P. M.

Mrs. Lee Perrotta will show us how to make chocolate candies for the upcoming holidays and special occasions.  Participants will be able to taste the chocolates following the demonstration and will receive recipes to take home.  Register for one session or the other – they will be identical.

HOLIDAY CAKE DECORATING

Registration: Monday, November 2nd at 3:00 P. M.

Lisa Basini of The Baking Coach will teach us how to decorate a beautiful cake for the upcoming holidays.  Each participant will have a seven-inch cake to take home.

 

CELL PHONE CHARM

Join Linda and Lauren Rendina to create a unique charm to attach to your cell phone, backpack , IPOD, etc.  Different varieties are available.

for a chance to win a Twilight DVD.

Pick up a trivia contest sheet in the Teen Corner at the Library or download it from our website.  This contest is open to Hicksville School District residents in grades six through twelve. Return your completed sheet to the Teen Desk in the Children’s Room by 5:00 P. M. on Saturday, October 31st.  One winner will be randomly selected from all correct entries.  The winner will be notified by phone on Tuesday, November 3rd.
