About the Library

History

In early 1962 a group of interested citizens formed a committee to study and determine the best means of bringing library service to Lakeview. They contacted the State Education Department , Union Free School District No. 12, the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, and all available government agencies that they felt could help. Through the assistance of School District No. 12, and the recommendation from the Library Division of the State Education Department, a bill was passed in the State Legislature establishing the Lakeview Library District. Library charter granted May 24,1974.
