INTERNET POLICY REGULATIONS

Policy Statement:

As part of its mission to provide a significant community informational, educational, and cultural resource, the Levittown Public Library seeks to provide users with access to the Internet and the World Wide Web. The Library is a forum for all points of view and adheres to and endorses the principles of intellectual freedom. The Library will not monitor or restrict the choice of sites visited by individual patrons or the content of those sites.

Rules and Regulations:

1.     Some workstations may be restricted to residents of the Levittown Union Free School
        District and those non-residents who have purchased Library cards. Non-residents will be
        permitted use as a Central Library service.

 2.    a) Users are required to complete the Internet Users Agreement form, and to check in at the
            Reference Desk.

        b) Children 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent/guardian when accessing the
            Internet, and the parent/guardian must sign the Internet Users Agreement form on their
            behalf.

        c) Students ages 15 through 17 may use the service without a  parent/guardian present but
            the parent/guardian must sign the Internet Users Agreement form on their behalf.

 3.    Use of the Internet is on a first-come first-served basis. Use is limited to a one-hour time
        period.  If the computer is available the time period may be extended by the Reference
        Librarian.

 4.    Users are subject to all State and Federal laws and must comply with all U.S. Copyright
        regulations.

 5.    Users are responsible for any charges incurred if they enter a fee-based service.

 6.    Users are required to take proper care of the Library's equipment and property. Alterations
         to the Library's computer equipment and printers or software are prohibited. Problems with
         the Library's hardware or software should be reported to the Reference Desk immediately.

 7.    Librarians will assist in the initial start-up of the system, but will not provide extended
        instruction.

 8.    a) Users may print materials on the Library's printers or download information onto their own
            floppy discs. Users may not download information to the Library's computers' hard disc.

        b) Users are prohibited from degrading, disrupting or destroying programming, and are further
             prohibited from downloading copyrighted or licensed material.

 9.     Failure to comply with Library rules and regulations will result in termination of Internet
         access  privileges.

 10.   The Levittown Public Library makes no warranty, expressed or implied, nor assumes
         responsibility for the timeliness, accuracy or usefulness of any information accessed via the
         Internet.
