April 2009
Greetings, Locust Valley! We wish you all a Happy Easter and Happy Passover. Please stop by the Library and check out our holiday books with ideas for celebrating these festive occasions.
You may have noticed that we are taking down some of the trees around the Library. Last fall, as you might remember, a tree from “Barbara’s Garden” fell into a tennis court, damaging the fence and the court itself. Since that time we have had certified arborists from four different tree services come to the Library to inspect our trees to see if there are any more hazardous trees. We chose Wonderland Tree Care of Oyster Bay to help us with this project. Tom Golon of Wonderland is very active in industry organizations, both nationally and locally, including serving as a board member for the Bailey Arboretum. Wonderland has inspected the entire property and marked the diseased trees that needed to be removed. We have begun with the trees around the building and will continue over time to provide care proactively for the rest of the property. Wonderland is doing a fantastic job. In addition to removing the diseased trees they will prune other trees to reduce hazards and improve overall tree health and aesthetics.
On April 15th at 7:30 PM the Library will hold its annual meeting in the Community Room. Please come out and join us! The discussion will focus on what the Library has accomplished in the past year and our goals for next year. The Friends of the Locust Valley Library will be serving refreshments to mark the occasion. We hope you will come out and be part of the festivities.
Will you be traveling this summer? We have a new product which we hope you will find helpful as well as fascinating. It’s called a “Travel Kit” and contains an assortment of products to help you plan your trip. Each kit is loaned out in its own little “suitcase” with the name of the country on the luggage tag. Inside you will find a travel guidebook, a map, a phrase book, a CD on the language and suggested children’s activities (if available) while you are visiting a foreign destination. Come in and check these out and I’m sure you will find them useful. If you don’t see a destination of your choice let us know and we’ll try and put one together for you.
Well, that’s all for now….We’ll chat again soon.
