Baby Sitting Workshops for boys and girls in 6th grade and up. Monday,
June 9th from 7- 8:30pm & Tuesday, June 10th from 4:30- 6:30pm
Learn the basics of childcare and safety
in this informative two session workshop. Registered nurses Joanne Tanck and
Georgette Basso; will speak on aspects of child development, basic first aid,
and the changing and feeding of babies; and a representative from the Long Beach
Fire Department will speak on home safety. A certificate will be awarded to
those completing both classes. Registration
begins May 12th at 5:30pm for Long Beach Residents and May 16th for all others. Participants
must bring a baby sized doll/stuffed animal to class. |

children discover the fun and love of reading! Join this volunteer*
program where teens read to children ages 4 years-old through the 3rd grade. Big
Buddies must be in grades 7 -12 and have attended an Orientation Session for training.

HELP,
HELP !!! VOLUNTEERS WANTED A program designed to provide the teens
of Long Beach with a venue for community service by becoming involved with our
Annual Winter Reading Club for Children.Volunteers*
help children sign up and report on books read. They track all readers and award
prizes and provide the librarians with assistance as needed.
Acceptance into the program and attendance at orientaion is required. Contact
the Youth ServicesDepartment at 432-7201 for more information.

YAK and SNACK Advisory Board for 5th thru 12th graders meets monthly. This fun
and talkative group helps plan library activities, suggest programs and various

to celebrate National Poetry Month in April.

The Long Beach Public Library reserves the right to not accept submissions with

Submissions must not contain profanity
or material that could be offensive to any racial, ethnic or religious group.
The
Long Beach Public Library reserves the right to edit spelling and blatant grammatical
errors. Students must reside in or attend school in Long Beach in order
to submit poetry. Students must be in grades 6-12. All
