CHILDREN'S ROOM SERVICES AND PROGRAMS

An active center for children and parents. Program schedule includes story hours, reading clubs, films, crafts, creative writing, holiday and vacation programs.
Please remember to bring your Manhasset Library Card when registering for children's programs.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
All programs are held in the Children's Room unlesskotherwise noted. Siblings not meeting
class age requirements will not be allowed to attend, unless otherwise noted.
Registration
may be by phone, e-mail, fax, or in person in the Children's Room. Please include child's    
name, address, phone, age, date of birth, grade, and the barcode number from the back   
of a family library card when registering.                                                                                         


          

BOOK DISCUSSIONS
3rd Grade: Wednesdays, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, Dec. 3
4th-5th Grades: Wednesdays, Sept. 14, Oct. 29, Nov. 19
4-5 p.m.

Children read and discuss pre-selected books while sharing a snack.
Copies of the first book will be available at registration.                 
Registration begins Wednesday, September 3 at 9 a.m.

   TOT'S NIGHT OUT
Wednesdays, October 15, November 5, December 3, 7-8 p.m.
Ages 18 months - 5 years
Children (with caregiver) will enjoy crafts, movement activities and
               songs in this interactive and fun monthly class.    
                                              
Registration beins Monday, September 8 at 9 a.m.    

HALLOWEEN CRAFT
Saturday, October 18, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Ages 3 and up
Children (with caregiver) will be able to drop in at their convenience during the day
and make a simple, self-guided holiday art project.
No registration necessary.


PRESCHOOL SHOWCASE
Wednesday, October 22, 7 - 9 p.m. in the Community Room
Adults only, please (Children will not be permitted to attend)

Parents of preschool children will have an opportunity to meet and listen to brief presentations
from directors of Manhasset-area preschools. Following sign-in and refreshments, the program
          will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. After the presentations, parents will have an opportunity to meet the
                 directors to ask questions and receive brochures and applications. The Preschool showcase is being          
     hosted by the Great Neck-Manhasset Community Child Care Partnership. For more information, call
 Pat Roos (627-2300 x305).                                                                                           
No registration necessary.

PUMPKIN PAINTING  
Saturday, October 25, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Ages 3 - 5 (with caregiver)

Bring your own pumpkin and create a unique holiday work of art.
All art supplies will be provided. Children must be accompanied
 
     by caregivers. No siblings not meeting class age requirements.
Registration begins Monday, October 6 at 9 a.m.

LIFE WITH MAGGIE
Saturday, November 8, 2 - 3 p.m.
Grades 3 - 6

Join author Selena Winter in learning about Maggie, a child with Cerebral Palsy who
shows her inspirational story over a tow and a-half year period. The author uses   
photography combined with text to depict the world of special needs as well as    
Maggie's ability to play sports and have fun with family and friends. There will be a
raffle for a gift certificate and other giveaways!                                              
Registration begins Tuesday, October 14, at 11 a.m.
         

THANKSGIVING CRAFT
Saturday, November 22, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Ages 3 and up
Children (with caregiver) will be able to drop in at their
       convenience during the day and make a simple, self-guided 
holiday art project. No registration necessary.  

     
  
WINTER CRAFT
Friday, December 26 and Saturday, December 27, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Ages 3 and up
Children (with caregiver) will be able to drop in at their
       convenience during the day and make a simple, self-guided 
seasonal art project. No registration necessary.     
 

 WINTER STORYCRAFT
Tuesday, December 30, 2:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Grades1 - 3

Kids will hear wintertime stories and enjoy a fun seasonal craft project.
 No siblings not meeting class age requirements.                                

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT
Tuesday, December 30: WALL-E (G)
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Ages 4 and up (with caregiver) in the Community room

Join us for a fun family flick and enjoy a snack. Free raffle  for a movie-themed gift pack.
Please bring a blanket or pillow for comfy floor seating. Snacks and beverages will be     
 provided by the Library (please, no outside food or drink). This is not a drop-off program.
All children must be accompanied by an adult.                                                         
   Registration begins Monday, December 15 at 9 a.m.

FALL STORYTIMES
All storytimes are held in the Children's Room.
  REGISTRATION LOTTERY INFORMATION: 
Lottery entries will be accepted only from
Monday, October 6 through Sunday, October 19. Any entries received before Monday,
October 6, at 9 a.m. will be disqualified. One entry per child.Siblings registering for    
the same program need submit only one entry. Entries must include child's name,    
address, phone number, date of birth, grade (if applicable), and the barcode number   
        from a family library card. Entrants will be phoned with lottery results either on Monday,     
          October 20 or Tuesday, October 21.. Lottery entries may be submitted in person, by phone,

fax, or e-mail.                                                                                                       
                                                                                                   

               TOYTIME
Ages 6 months-2 1/2 years, with caregiver.
Thursdays, October 30, November 6, 13, 20, December 4, 11,
10:00 a.m - 11:30 a.m.
Enjoy playtime, songs and stories. Children enrolled in Toytime may not
be simultaneously enrolled in another storytime. Children must be        
accompanied by a caregiver and have turned 6-months old by Nov. 1. 
No siblings over 2 1/2 years old, please.
                                  

MOPPET STORYTIME
Ages 18 - 24 months (with caregiver).
Tuesdays, October 28, November 4, 11, 18, 25, December 2
11:15 - 11:45 a.m.

Familiar rhymes, favorite songs, and gentle stories are the foundation of this fun-filled
 introduction to storytime for children and their caregivers. Children must be               
accompanied by a caregiver and have turned 18-months old by October 28. No         
 siblings, please.                                                                                                   

                   2-YEAR OLD STORYTIME
Wednesdays, October 29, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10
9:30 - 10:15 a.m.
Youngsters and caregivers will enjoy stories and more. Children must be
                accompanied by a caregiver and have turned 2 by October 31. No siblings, please.  

                               2 1/2 - 3 YEAR-OLD STORYTIME
Wednesdays, October 29, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10 

10:45 - 11:30 a.m.

Youngsters and caregivers will enjoy stories and more. Children must be
        accompanied by a caregiver and have turned 2 1/2 years-old by October 29. 
No siblings, please.  
                                                                   

3 YEAR-OLD STORYTIME
Tuesdays, October 28, November 4, 11, 18, 25, December 2
1:30 - 2:15 p.m.
This is a drop-off class for children. Adults will be expected to ramain in the
storytelling room with the youngsters during the first few sessions before  
separation. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver and have turned 
3-years old by October 28. No siblings, please.                                      
                                     

4 -5 YEAR-OLD STORYTIME
Mondays, October 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24, December 1
1:30 - 2:15 p.m.
Preschoolers will enjoy a storytime must for them! This is a drop-off class for
children not enrolled in Kindergarten. No caregivers, please.                       

KINDERGARTEN STORYTIME  

Thursdays, October 30, November 5, 13, 20, December 4, 11,
4 -4:45 p.m.

Kindergarteners will enjoy a special storytime just for them! Longer
stories and crazy crafts are all part of the fun. This is a drop-off   
          
class for children currently enrolled in Kindergarten. No caregivers, please.

STORYTIME PLUS
Mondays, October 27, November 3, 10, 17, 24, December 1
4 - 5 p.m. Grades 1 - 2

Older chldren will enjoy more complex stories and involved crafts.
This is a drop-off class. No caregivers, please.

For people of all ages...Rock & Roll with SQUEAKY CLEAN

You'll be dancin' in the aisles, clappin' your hands, and singin' along...You've heard
the records; now come see them live and in person -- Rockin' and Rollin'.              
IMPORTANT: Manhasset residents are seated first, up to 15-minutes prior
to the performance, then non-residents, space permitting.

TWANG/TEENZONE THAT'S A WRAP!
Tuesday, October 21, 7 p.m.
Grades 5 and up
Held in the Twang Lounge
$5 material fee must be paid at registration.

Join your friends and learn how to make delicious wraps. Get creative by
 filling your wraps with your favorites.                                                 
      Registration begins on Monday, October 6 at 9 a.m. Register in person
at the MPL Circulation Desk.                                                                      

TWEEN MOVIE NIGHT
Tuesday, November 18: Galazy Quest (PG)
6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Grades 4 - 7 in the Community Room

Enjoy a cool movie, a snack, and a free raffle for movie-themed gift. Snacks and beverages
        will be provided (please, no outside food or drink). Bring a blanket or pillow for comfy floor viewing.
Registration begins Monday, November 3, at 9 a.m,. by phone, fax, e-mail, or in person in the Childrens' Room.

3rd ANNUAL TWANG/TEENZONE VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT
Monday, December 29, 10 a.m. - 12 noon
Grades 6 and up
in the Community Room
Gamers, get your fingers ready to play the hottest video games at our 3rd Annual Video Game Tournament.
GameCube, PS2, and Xbox games such as Guitar Hero, Burnout, and Super Smash Brothers Melee will test  
your skills. Prizes for top scorers and fun for all.                                                                               
$7 per person materials fee payable at registration.
Registration begins Monday, December 8, at 9 a.m. Register in person at the MPL Circulation Desk.

MEMBERSHIPS

Residents of the Manhasset School District may obtain a library card free of charge.  Proof of residence must be presented when applying for a library card.
