MANHASSET'S NEW LIBRARY

                 THE NEW MANHASSET LIBRARY

As you first walk through the doors of your new Library, you will be greeted by our friendly Information
Desk staff and guided to the area best suited to your needs.

Wireless service is available throughout the Library. Bring your own laptop, sit anywhere -- at a
table or in a comfortable chair -- and access the Internet. This wireless service is made possible by
  a grant from Cablevision.

Three Quiet Study Rooms  are available for individual or small group study for 2-hour periods.
Just make an appointment for a Quiet Room with one of the librarians on the 2nd floor Reference
Desk and the room will be yours for your quiet study needs. Literacy volunteers will find these
rooms ideal for tutoring their students.

You asked for this...And we heard you. First, the beautiful cherrywood second-floor Conference
Room, used for Library Board of Trustees meetings, is available to the Manhasset
community for small meetings of 12 persons or fewer. Additionally, space for larger Manhasset
community groups is available in the Community Room on the lower level of your Library,
accommodating between 20 and 200 people, whenever Library programs are not taking place.
Manhasset residents may reserve the Conference or Community Rooms by  calling
Debbie Dellis-Quinn at your Library, 627-2300.

The Children's Room has its own Secret Garden -- an attractive child-friendly room for
storytime and book talks, arts and crafts, and small programs. There is comfortable seating for
quiet reading for both children and their parents, and tables for homework and study. A separate
Poetry Corner, new puppets, puzzles, music CD's and kits add to the ambiance of this lovely
area designed with children and families in mind.

Young Adults (grades 6 through 12) have their own space -- The Teen Zone --
where they can meet, do homework, read, and feel at home.
Young Adult books and
magazines are available in and around the room, and there are four computers exclusively
for teen use. We hope that teens will look upon this attractively decorated enclosed area as
their own special place.

In addition, your Library has a Self-Checkout System that allows you to check out
your own materials and receive a "register tape" copy of the items you have checked out with
their due dates. It is an easy-to-use system and the only requirement is that you must
have your library card with you in order to use it.
You swipe your card, pile your books
on the computer pad where they will be checked out, receive your receipt and you are free to leave.
No more waiting in line. However, the Circulation Desk staff will continue to be available in case
of a problem or if you prefer to have your materials checked out the usual way.

Your Library also has a system known as Smart Access Manager, or "SAM," which
is used to manage access to the Public Internet computers. Your Library card is your
passport to log-on to a PC and enable you to print documents.

Self-checkout and "SAM" will provide you with added efficiency and more effective use
of your time.
These services are very easy to use (we will, or course, gladly provide help, if
needed), and we are sure that once you have become familiar with their operation, you will be quite
  comfortable about using them.
