FOREVER FREE EXHIBITION -- ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S JOURNEY TO EMANCIPATIONHappy 200th Birthday Abraham Lincoln!
Thursday, February 12, 2009, is the 200th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. The Mineola Memorial Library is hosting the national travelling exhibit: Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation from November 14, 2009 through January 8, 2010. This free exhibition shows how Lincoln's beliefs about freeing the slaves were transformed by war-time developments. We will also be featuring special events throughout 2009, starting with a big kickoff event on February 11, 2009, the eve of Lincoln's 200th birthday! Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation has been organized by the Huntington Library, San Marino, California, and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, New York City, in cooperation with the American Library Association Public Programs Office. This exhibition was made possible by major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, promoting excellence in the humanities, and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, created by Congress and charged with planning the national celebration of Lincoln's 200th birthday.
