WHAT A HOOT!

OWLS2.jpg

Presenters from Volunteers for Wildlife were at the library on July 31 to present an "Owl Discovery" program. Children of all ages were fascinated as the volunteers displayed and talked about these fascinating creatures. Our outdoor deck was the perfect backdrop for this outstanding program.

Lincoln Exhibit Update

Happy 199th Birthday Abraham Lincoln!

This means that we are now only one year away from our year-long Lincoln Celebration in 2009. The year will culminate when the Mineola Library hosts the national travelling exhibit: Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation from November 10, 2009- January 10, 2010. But we will be featuring special events throughout 2009, starting with a big kickoff event on February 11, 2009, the eve of Lincoln's 200th Birthday!

Next week (February 18-23), I will be attending a workshop for the Lincoln exhibit. This event, held at the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino, California, will bring together the directors of the 50 libraries across the country that will be hosting the Lincoln exhibit during the next three years. Once this workshop is completed, I will have more details on our plans for a very special year.

Welcome to the Mineola Library Book Discussion Group! I've started this blog to provide news and encourage discussion for book club members: past, present and future. It's easy to join the book club. The only requirement is that you love reading. We meet on a selected Wednesday evening every month at 7 pm.

If you can't make a meeting but would like to share your opinion of the selected book, please email me at midirector@nassaulibrary.org.

Thanks,
Charles Sleefe
