NCLA Personnell Issues/Professional Concerns Committee
Hello Friends.
Our committee works for the concerns of rank and file librarians, clerks,
and other library employees. Our aim is to improve the welfare of our
members in the matters of employee/administration relations, salaries,
benefits, and associated concerns.
Through lectures and workshops on various issues, we hope to make a difference
in the daily lives of the professional and non-professional employees
of Nassau County.
Our first membership meeting was held at the Seaford Public Library on
March 13, 2002 at 9:30 A.M. We made plans for programs during the upcoming
year. Your input and advice will be sought to make this a successful committee.
Future meetings will include a hospital insurance specialist who will
discuss retiree health insurance.
We have a very important meeting planned for all Library workers on June
6, 2002 at NLS at 9:30 A.M. There will be a panel discussion involving
whether to organize your library for staff representation or not. All
the major unions willo be represented. Also Port Washington will represent
PERB Certified Staff Associations. I will make the case for no representation.
I would like to hear from all of you who would volunteer your union spokesman,
or a staff association President to participate in this symposium. The
membership will choose a date for this program at the March meeting.
Please e-mail me with your questions, concerns, and ideas for this program.
Thank you,
John Bosco
Seaford Library Director
