NCLA Media Services and Young Adult Services Divisions are please to hold a joint Annual Luncheon and Installation of Officers on Tuesday, December 16 from 9:30 a.m. -1 p.m. in the Nassau Library System Ballroom

A very special program will focus on the 2005 documentary film Mad Hot Ballroom and how it sparked a nationwide interest in American Ballroom Theater's model arts-in-education program "Dancing Classrooms".

Special guest Nancy Duncan, Long Island representative of "Dancing Classrooms", will talk about this not-for-profit project of the American Ballroom Theater Company which was launched in 1994. In addition to clips from Mad Hot Ballroom and Take the Lead, the movie inspired by the life of Pierre Dulaine, co-founder of "Dancing Classrooms", students in the program from the Wilson Elementary School in Rockville Center will demonstrate their dancing skills.

This special event is $15 for NCLA Members and $25 for non-members

YASD Rocks! @ Spring Luncheon

Margo Rabb, author of "Cures for Heartbreak", joined over 30 YA librarians for our Annual YASD Spring Luncheon. Following a tasty meal at Domenico's of Levittown, Margo shared her writing process, including samples of her hand-written manuscripts, notebooks, and even a rejection notice or two. Her insights into becoming a YA author and how writers of YA books are viewed by their peers opened a fascinating window onto a genre near and dear to us all.
