The 2010 B.E.S.T. Award (Bringing Excellence in Service by Teens) was presented to David Kane of the Rockville Centre Public Library at the Long Island Library Conference.
David was nominated by Terry Ain, Rockville Centre's YA Librarian and chosen from a group of worthy candidates by the members of the YASD board. The award was presented by Barbara Mickowski, vice president of the YASD of NCLA.
Over the past several years David has not only donated his time to the library, but has contributed his creative talents and visionary ideas. David has served as a member of the Teen Advisory Board for over three years and is currently president. He maintains the teen blog and his involvement on the board has led to many successful teen-run programs at the library.
As a way to involve the Tween population, David has conducted a journalism program, creating a Teen/Tween newspaper, So The Paper,now in its third edition. His dedication and commitment as director/producer/judge/publicity manager for a talent competition The Rockville Centre Idol demonstrated not only his creative talents but served as a statement to his character.

David will be graduating this June from Archbishop Molloy High School and will attending the Macauley's Honor Program at City College this fall on a full scholarship. He plans on majoring in journalism.
