SUNDAY CONCERT

Noel Coward/Cole Porter
“Let’s do it!”

“Let’s Do It!” is a one-act musical play written and directed by the highly acclaimed David Houston.

In 1954, Noel Coward was slipping out of public notice, while his old friend Cole Porter was sailing at the peak of his career.

Imagine a brief meeting that year, when British Noel asks his long-time American friend Cole for help in choosing songs for a big chance to revive his fame: a spectacular cabaret appearance in Las Vegas.

The show blends the music, both sentimental and riotously funny, of both great songwriters in a one-act-two-character musical that includes such favorites as “Mad Dogs and Englishmen,” “I Love Paris,” “The Tale of the Oyster,” “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To,” “I’ll See You Again,” “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” “You’re The Top,” and many others, including the cabaret showstopper, Porter’s “Let’s Do It” with Coward’s outlandish 1954 lyrics.

David Houston plays Noel Coward, with Rick Heuthe as Cole Porter in this show you surely won’t want to miss!

Date: Sunday, May 18th
Time: 2pm

Book Discussion : The Reluctant Fundamentalist

Many contemporary writers have attempted to deliver a response to 9/11; here is one that offers something original and bold. Mohsin Hamid’s novel vividly portrays the turmoil and terror of today’s world in a single, unforgettable voice. In dramatic monologue, Changez, a Pakistani national, tells the story of his life to a nervous American at a café table in Lahore-his studies at Princeton, his subsequent success at a prestigious NY financial firm, his love for Erica, a beautiful wealthy American girl. He seems to have it all until the event on 9/11. In the aftermath, he begins to question his allegiances.

This intelligent and provocative plot is sure to touch the fundamental issues of your life, among which are identity and immigration, racism and xenophobia, fear and paranoia, prejudices and war.

Refreshments, compliments of The Friends, will be served. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk. Linda Judenberg will moderate what is sure to be a most stimulating discussion!
