Sunday Concert

Jimmy does Broadway

He’s back…...Jimmy Moore, with his extraordinary combination of talent and technique!

His most distinctive approach is formed by his jazz, opera, pop and musical theater background, providing an exuberant taste of all styles, combined with energy and passion.

Performing his most popular Broadway favorites, Jimmy will thrill you with his renditions from West Side Story, The Phantom, Guys and Dolls , Man of La Mancha, On a Clear Day, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Fantasticks, in addition to an operatic aria and some jazz standards. One of Jimmy’s major strengths as a performer is that his songs are sung “in character,” a guaranteed crowd pleaser.

Jimmy will be accompanied on piano, and there is always the possibility a surprise guest may “drop in” to join him. As many of you know, his daughter Michelle is creating an exciting career in musical theater, and if she is between “gigs,” who knows!

Date: Sunday, November 15th

Book Discussion-The Mark of the Angel

The Mark of the Angel, by Nancy Huston, is a story of romance and cynicism, evil and injustice, accident and fate as well as human history. It was written in French and then translated into English by Huston herself. The story opens in Paris in 1957 when Raphael Lepage, a famous flutist, advertises for a housekeeper. Saffie, a German immigrant of unknown background, applies for the position and soon finds herself married to Raphael. She becomes involved with a flute repairer and the reader discovers aspects of the war in Europe as well as the Algerian conflict after that war.

Huston was born in Calgary and moved to Boston when she was 15. She began her education at Sarah Lawrence, went to Paris in her junior year and never returned to the U.S.

The book has garnered many awards and was selected by U.S. independent booksellers as one of the best books of 1999. Refreshments, compliments of The Friends, will be served. Edna Ritzenberg will moderate. Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.
