The Children's Room of the Oyster Bay - East Norwich Public Library is dedicated to serving young people from infancy to 5th grade, as well as parents, caregivers, and teachers. We make every effort to satisfy the educational and entertainment needs of the children of our community by providing reference and reader's advisory services, books, videos, musical recordings, computer programs, and toys. In addition, an Online Public Access Catalog, a CD-ROM computer with a printer, and Internet stations are available for children's use.

2008 Summer Reading Club Kick-Off

Sign-up begins for children 3 years - entering 5th grade for Catch the Reading Bug: 2008 Summer Reading Club. Those who sign-up can have fun at our carnival and a special one-of-a-kind hands-on music show featuring sing-alongs, hands-on drumming, storytelling, puppets, magic, silliness and much more.

Book Buddies

Young Adult volunteers will read books of your child’s choice in a one-on-one setting in the community room. A selection of books will be provided. For children ages 3-5 years. Registration begins June 25.


Bug Bites

Tuesday, July 8
4:00 - 5:00 pm

Children ages 4 and up will learn about the amazing lives of bugs, insects and spiders with the Long Island Children’s Museum and will create their own imaginary bug. Registration began in June.


Pajama Party

Thursday, July 10
7:00 - 7:30 pm

Children ages 3-6 can come in their pajamas for stories, snacks and music! Registration began in June.


Me & My Computer

Friday, July 18.

In this hands-on computer class, children (ages 2 1/2 - 5 years) and their caregivers will learn the parts of a computer and work with the mouse, disks, programs and more. Computers will be provided; no experience necessary. Sign up for one of four 20 minute sessions - 10:00 - 10:20, 10:30 - 10:50, 11:00 - 11:20, 11:30 - 11:50. Registration began in June.


Fun in the Sun

Children ages 3-5 (with adult) will enjoy some stories about picnics and decorate a mini picnic basket and sippy cup. We’ll fill the basket with treats to take along on your very own picnic! Registration begins July 5.


Book Discussion: The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle

Children entering grades 3-5 will discuss the book, play Giggler Jeopardy and have a biscuit (cookie) tasting. Registration begins July 8. Copies of the book available at the circulation desk.


Get Buggy with Molly Mouse

Come sing, dance and play with Musical Moppets and make a buggy craft. For kids ages 18 months - 5 years (with adult). Registration begins July 10.


The Bugliest Bug

Who is the bugliest bug? Children entering grades K - 2 are invited to the library to find out! They will also make a bug craft and snack on bug cupcakes. Registration begins July 13.


Mad Science Bug Workshop

4:00 - 5:00 pm

Kids entering kindergarten through 3rd grade are invited to join Mad Science to learn about how bugs can be helpful to our environment and bring home your own bug box. Registration begins July 14.


Pajama Storytime

Children from 9 months - 3 years (with adult) are invited to wear their pj’s and bring their favorite stuffed animal to listen to some bedtime books and enjoy a snack. Registration begins July 21.


Book Discussion: Johnny Appleseed

4:00 pm

Discuss the book, make an edible apple craft and enjoy apple snacks. For children entering grades 1-3. Registration begins July 22. Copies of the book will be available at the Circulation Desk.


Going on a Picnic
