Best Wishes for a Healthy and Happy New Year
from the Library Trustees and Staff

THE FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY would like to thank all those who renewed their memberships or joined for the first time, as well as those who purchased raffle tickets to support the Friends. Proceeds have been used to continue our much-used museum passes to the Cradle of Aviation and the Nassau County Museum of Art. The winner of the Nook Color was Thomas Germano of East Norwich.

FEBRUARY IS LIBRARY LOVER’S MONTH - a celebration of libraries, and recognition of their value to their community. The Friends of the Library are in need of active volunteers to help them continue to raise funds and provide their valued assistance to the Library. If you love your library and can spare some time, please call Marion Robertson at 922-1326.

THE LONG ISLAND READS COMMITTEE has selected The Lost Wife, by L.I. author Alyson Richman, for 2012. We are again joining in North Shore Reads, a cooperative program with 6 local libraries, to bring our communities together through reading. The book event will be held again this year at the Metropolitan in Glen Cove, on March 29 at 7 pm. Copies of the well-reviewed book are available at the Circulation Desk, and can be downloaded from the Nassau Digital Doorway at our website - www.oysterbaylibrary.org.

TWO DATABASES FOR JOB SEEKERS have been added by the New York State Library’s NOVEL program. Job Now provides live job coaches, and the Adult Learning Center offers test preparation and an online writing lab. NOVEL is funded by federal grants allocated for library technology. Job Now and other helpful career databases can be accessed on our website.

HELP WITH YOUR TAXES will soon be available. 2011 tax forms and guides will be located in the Reference Room, and a link to tax forms will be found on our website. Volunteers from AARP’s Tax-Aide program will be on hand Mondays from February 6, to April 9, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, except for Presidents’ Day, when we are closed.

YOU CAN NOW RENEW ITEMS on your mobile phone! Once you provide us with your mobile phone number, you will receive courtesy notices on AirPAC, our online catalog for small-screen browsers. Just reply with the word “renew,” and the system will renew all eligible items. AirPAC works with Web-enabled phones and PDAs, and allows you to search the library catalog and view your patron record anywhere, anytime.
