Paintings by watercolor artist Jack Chudnoff of Mellville
Jack Chudnoff is a self-taught watercolorist who began painting during his retirement. Throughout his 30-year career in the recording industry, Chudnoff was involved with album artwork, photography, design, advertising, display material and all phases of printing for his companies’ marketing plans. Most of Chudnoff’s paintings originate from photographs, many of which he has taken. New elements are often added to the original photograph to create a fresh composition incorporating a judicious use of color. The Friends of the Library purchased four of Chudnoff’s paintings in 2000 and presented them as gifts to the Plainview-Old Bethpage Library. They are currently on display in the Reference Department.
Pottery by ceramic artist Anne Hochman of Dix Hills
The focus of Anne Hochman’s pottery is enjoyment and the fulfillment found in the creating. The idea that something both beautiful and useful can be made from “a simple lump of clay,” is in itself, inspiring and pleasing. Hochman uses both high-fire and low-fire clays and a combination of glazes and hand-painting to create a unique and striking assortment of vases and bowls. One of her lizard vases won 1st Place at the Queens County Farm Museum’s annual County Fair in September 2007. Whether an elegant shape, a happy ladybug or an alluring lizard, each piece is made to touch, enjoy and use.
