What is Senior Connections?

SENIOR CONNECTIONS is senior citizens volunteering to help other older adults and their families through information and referral to community resources, in neighborhood public libraries on Long Island, New York.

Most senior citizens feel more comfortable talking to someone who looks like him or herself, or seems like a neighbor. With SENIOR CONNECTIONS, there is recognition and rapport, and always a caring touch.

This service is provided with the help of social workers and librarians.

SENIOR CONNECTIONS also provides many other services in libraries, such as conducting community-wide informational programs, discussion and writing groups, and social service projects that deal with the special interests and concerns of seniors. In addition to on-site information, referral and counseling services, SENIOR CONNECTIONS is involved in outreach programs to isolated elderly residents and to community service providers.

The activities of the volunteers in each library are integrated with the overall programs and goals of the local library.
