Phones for Life

Many of us have old cell phones around the house and don't know what to do with them. Through the help of Phones for Life, Inc., used cell phones are distributed to people who can really use them as an emergency response system.
Phones for Life, Inc. is a nationally recognized non-profit organization. Dr. L'Archeveque, an Emergency Medicine and Critical Care physician started this nationwide program 5 years ago because too often she saw seniors in the hospital who had been injured but were not able to summon help. This often made their condition much worse by the time they were discoverd.
According to FCC regulations, all cell phones must be enabled to dial 911, even if the user does not have a cell phone contract. The goal of Phones for Life, Inc. is to provide senior citizens with a level of security by bringing 911 access to all elderly citizens across the country. Once an old cell phone is donated to Phones for Life, Inc., the phone will be cleaned of all stored data, tested, repaired if necessary and made available to a senior in need. Simple instructions will be provided for the phone's use. Follow-up surveys have shown that seniors feel safer and more comfortable while carrying the reprogrammed phones with them; in addition, the phones keep seniors out in the 'world' longer.
The Phones for Life, Inc. program runs through donations. Please deposit your old cell phone, charger and accessories in the Phones for Life, Inc. box at the Library. You can help seniors stay safe and maintain a healthy, productive lifestyle.
