JOIN OUR SUMMER READING CLUB
FOR YOUNG ADULTS

You are invited to join our Summer Reading Club if you are entering Grades 6–12.
The theme is Metamorphosis @ Your Library. Read any book you choose. We will have a gummy worm guess for those who register and 3 random raffles will be drawn throughout the summer. On display in the YA area will be theme related booklists. Upon completion youʼll be invited to our Laser Karaoke party with pizza on Monday, August 11 from 6:30–8:30 pm. Registration starts Tuesday, June 10. Reviewing begins Monday, June 23 and continues through Saturday, August 9. Donʼt miss the opportunity to change yourself by joining our Summer Reading Club. Be sure to register at the Reference Desk for Summer Reading Fun for YAs.


Teen Advisory Board

Our Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is a group that
strives to improve library services. It operates with the
guidance of the YA Librarian. Teens in Grades 7–12
who wish to work towards that purpose and earn
community service hours are welcome to join us.

Paint this bug with colors of your choice then watch it become dimensional.

Share your favorite Manga Cartoon book and the librarian will show you what's new. Then David, our expert, will tell you what's popular, the history of manga, and how to draw the characters.

Transform your tee with bands of bold colors in the design of your choice with tie dye expert Joanne. Bring your own white t-shirt. Registration begins Monday, July 7.

TEEN MYSTERY GAME (or CSI Shelter Rock)
with Joanne Merkel
You will solve the mystery of the body found in the library parking lot by examining the evidence, viewing photos of the crime scene and reading accounts from witnesses and suspects. Teen Volunteers will be the actors and must arrive at 3:30 pm to rehearse their parts. Registration begins Monday, July 7.

SUMMER SMOOTHIE MIXING
with Nayana Patel
You'll mix delicious, fruit drinks in this hands-on workshop. Youʼll blend berries, pineapples, mangoes and more for a delectable treat with Nayana's guidance.

This creative puzzle is drawn and painted by you. Mix the pieces up to create a different design.

We now have a separate YA Collection called "Graphic Novels" which is shelved just before YA fiction. This starter collection includes popular series, manga, retold classics, comics, superheroes and personal accounts. We also subscribe to Anime Insider, a Japanese animation magazine which covers manga, TV and DVD anime, and Japanese culture. We welcome your suggestions for this collection which can be made by dropping a note in the suggestion box addressed to the YA librarian.

ATN Book Lists Nancy J. Keane.

Currently maintained by Keane, ATN is an easy-to-navigate, searchable site that offers lists of recommended books arranged by topic.

 

Guys Read Jon Scieszka.

It's all about getting guys to read. Many of the selections lend themselves to reading aloud because they are fast paced, adventurous, and/or humorous. Not a read-aloud site per se, but worth checking out for ideas.

A middle school librarian has put together a terrific teen literacy page that is chock-full of top teen picks, from "Graphic Fantastic" to "Teen Tearjerkers."
