The UJA-Federation
Family Service Agency has 21 sites throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Provides family and mental health services. Mental Health Clinics work
with adolescents, adults and families to address emotional problems, conflicts
and stress. Full range of assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy and medication
therapy available. Clinics also offer specialized services for those coping
with family violence, HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, eating disorders, and children
with special needs. Provides employment services including skills training,
job readiness, placement and support for displaced homemakers, dislocated
workers and others financially at risk. Community education and professional
training offered on a variety of topics. Residential and case management
services are provided to those with developmental disabilities.

A partnership
of schools, businesses, child care providers, government, civic associations
and religious organizations which works together to provide information
about the needs and availability of affordable quality child care. The
partnership has produced a resource pamphlet listing child care providers
in the area, defining various programs and providing guidelines to assist
in making child care decisions. In collaboration with the Jericho Senior
High School, a child care video has been developed illustrating quality
issues in child care. An offspring of the Partnership is the "Grandparents
as Caregivers" group. It is open to all and meets the 2nd Wednesday
of every month from 12:30 to 2:00 at the Jericho Public Library.

It oversees the operation of the Town's Animal Shelter, the Recycling Bureau

the S.T.O.P. hazardous household waste disposal program and the Solid Waste

| The Handicapped
Services Division administers the Group Activities Program for the Handicapped
(GAP), which provides a unique social-recreational experience for developmentally
disabled children and young adults within a therapeutic environment.
GAP PROGRAM
The focus
of the GAP is group interaction. Between September and June, the GAP offers
after-school and Saturday programs for youngsters ages five to 21. Evening
programs are available for those 16 and older, and there is a special evening
program for those 21 and older. These programs are offered at both north
and south shore locations in the Town. During the summer, the GAP provides
a special six-week day camp experience for children ages five to 21. This
program is offered at Town community parks on weekdays from 10:00am to

UJA is
a central source of information for the entire range of services available
to the Jewish Community from both UJA-Federation and other agencies in
New York City, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk. Trained phone volunteers,
supervised by a professional, answer questions and refer callers to appropriate
agencies and services. They operate weekdays from 9:00-5:00; other times,
answering service takes messages to be answered the next working day. Volunteers
speak Russian, Yiddish, and German.
