The homepage of the National Gardening Association, this site provides information and tips for the home gardener, including planting guides, free newsletters, and links to many useful gardening related sites.

GardenWeb is an internet community for gardeners. This site includes user forums and message boards, blogs, garden galleries and expert tips. Especially useful features are the HortiPlex Database, with information about a multitude of plants (searchable by common name or by scientific name), and the online Glossary of Botanical Terms.

KidsGardening is an excellent site for information about gardening by or with children.

The gardening site of the Cornell University Cooperative Extension. In addition to comprehensive and authoritative information relating to gardening and agriculture in New York State, this site also provides links to the local Cooperative Extension offices for each county in the state.

The Garden Advice site provides information for all levels of gardeners, from beginner to expert. There are useful planning tools, lists of garden projects, a user forum to share ideas with other gardeners, and a “gardening how-to” especially for beginners. Please note that this site is sponsored by the Scotts Miracle-Gro. While the information provided on the website is free of charge, there are references to specific products of the Scotts Miracle-Gro company. A website with tips, solutions and sources specific to organic gardening.

Home and Garden Information Center, sponsored by the University of Maryland and the Maryland Cooperative Extension. This site provides tips for the casual and the master gardener. Of particular note is the Plant Diagnostic Center, which features photographs to assist in diagnosing and solving problems of plant disease or insect infestation.

The home page of Old Westbury Gardens, which features the Phipps family mansion as well as 160 acres of formal gardens and landscaping. Old Westbury Gardens is open from April through October.

The Planting Fields arboretum is located on over 400 acres of grounds, landscaped by the Olmstead Brothers and features magnificent displays of plants and trees. The Arboretum offers course for the public in such areas as garden planning, pruning techniques, composting and flower arranging, among many others. Programs are also offered especially for children.

The John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden. The home of John P. Humes, former Ambasador to Japan, this is a fine example of Japenese gardening. The gardens are open on weekends from April through October.
