TeenSpace News: Spring 2008

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD - Get involved with Teen programs and materials at your library. Mondays, March 3, April 7 and May 5. 7 PM. In TeenSpace. No registration required. Free. Refreshments provided.

TEEN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THESE PROGRAMS:
Registration for all sessions begins Monday, February 18 for SSD residents; February 25 for all others. Free. Refreshments provided.
* GAME NIGHT - Monday, March 10. 7 – 8 PM.
Kindergarteners through fifth graders will bring their favorite games to the library and play them with teens. If you have a favorite, you can bring it too.
* BOOK BUDDIES - read to children 3 ½ years old to kindergarten. Thursdays, April 17 (Pajama Book Buddies-come dressed in pajamas) and May 15, 2008. 7 – 7:45 PM

NEEDLECRAFT CLUB - If you know how to knit, crochet, embroider or needlepoint or want to learn from other teens. Come to chat and do your needlework. The first Thursday of each month: March 6, April 3 and May 1. 7 - 8 PM in TeenSpace. Free. Bring your own yarn and needles. No registration required. Refreshments provided.

ORIGAMI - Learn the Japanese art of folding paper into shapes representing flowers or animals. Monday, March 17. 7 – 8:30 PM. Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, February 25; March 3 for al l others. Free. Refreshments provided.

BOOK DISCUSSION - Join us for a discussion of the book The Clique by Lisi Harrison. Monday, March 31. 7 – 8:30 PM. Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, March 3; March 10 for all others. Books are available at the Circulation Desk one month before the program. Free. Refreshments provided.

OPEN MIC NIGHT - Friday, April 11. 7 – 9 PM. We need talented Teens for our first Open Mic Night. Singing, dancing, poetry, music, magic tricks. Whatever your talent, show it off to your friends. Performer registration for SSD residents begins Monday, March 10; March 17 for all others. Free tickets available beginning Monday, March 24.

BOOK/MOVIE DISCUSSION - Join us for a discussion of the book and original movie version of Freaky Friday by Mary Rodgers. Monday, April 28. 7 – 9 PM. Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, April 7; April 14 for all others. Books are available at the Circulation Desk one month before the program. Free. Refreshments provided.

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP with JoAnn Tanck & Georgette Basso. Monday, May 12. 7 - 9 PM. Bring a doll or stuffed animal to practice diapering. Registration for SSD residents begins Monday, April 21; April 28 for all others. Free. Refreshments provided.

TEEN BABYSITTING JOB FAIR - The Babysitting Job Fair provides the opportunity for parents needing babysitters to meet Teens who have completed a Babysitting Workshop. Teens must register. Parents need not register * just drop in * bring your children and let them bond with a babysitter. Sunday, May 18. 12:30 - 2 PM. Refreshments provided. Free. (Teen Babysitter registration for SSD residents begins Monday, April 21; April 28 for all others.)

FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE

Let us help make the college search easier. Stop by the Reference Desk or TeenSpace to pick up our updated packet, From High School to College, containing a list of library and internet resources, government brochures, a sample FAFSA financial aid form, and a handy list of what freshmen should consider bringing to school.

The library also has materials available on SAT/ACT test preparation, choosing colleges, writing the college application and essay, college life and financial aid information. TEEN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DIRECTORY

A directory of local volunteer opportunities for teens has been compiled. It contains over 50 organizations, including educational, recreational, conservation and humanitarian, seeking teen volunteers. The directory is available upon request at the Reference Desk.
